Aaron Fuchs

LinkedIn Round

iX, Founder • Yale 2010, BSc Mech Eng • Ex Wall St Trader

I started iX to give students what I wish I'd had in college: the chance to explore a career, learn from people in the industry, build practical skills, and do it somewhere incredible with students from around the world.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions.

Here's some additional info on how we work.

Will my internship be in-person?

Yes. All iX Summer Abroad students choose from a range of in-city internships. You'll work in your host company's offices on all internship days and meet your manager in person at least twice a week to discuss progress. The Internship Explorer, which you receive towards the beginning of the program, details each company and project.

What will my weekly schedule look like?

Before arrival, you complete your pre-work (sent two weeks before kickoff). The first two weeks are purely class time: rapid learning, researching internship projects and convening your team once placements are done. From week three: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are full-time internship days with your team; Tuesdays and Thursdays are class in the morning and internship work in the afternoon, with regular check-ins from your dedicated Teaching Team mentor and at least two manager meetings a week.

Which company will I be interning with?

iX works with over 250 partner companies worldwide, from startups and NGOs to big corporates and non-profits, across a broad range of industries. Because these are real-world internships, projects are confirmed right up to the start of the program, so the finalized list is released when the program begins. The examples in this pack are a great illustration of what to expect.

What tools will I use to collaborate?

You'll be onboarded to your host company's tools and integrated with their communication and collaboration systems. Your iX Teaching Team mentor checks in regularly, and you may have a dedicated Slack channel where your mentor responds within 12 hours.

How does the accommodation work?

We house 2 to 3 students per room, and room selection is first-come-first-serve, so committing and paying your deposit early gives you first choice. Accommodation is paired with a nearby coworking space and close to shops, transport and amenities. You're picked up from the airport and checked in on the Sunday before the program starts, with transport to the airport arranged for the Saturday after it ends. Early or late arrivals and departures require your own transport and accommodation arrangements.

Can I change courses during the program?

Course changes are allowed in the first three days of the program, with a written motivation and a willingness to catch up on the work already done in the course you're moving to. Beyond three days, changes aren't allowed. And if you finish the program realizing you'd like to start your career differently, that's okay: knowing what you don't want can be just as valuable.

Do I need medical insurance?

Yes, medical insurance is compulsory (see your Student Portal for details). Check whether your provider covers you abroad or whether you need separate travel insurance; it must include coverage for COVID-19 testing and quarantine accommodation. We recommend CISI as a trusted, affordable travel insurance provider.Upload your details to the student portal, bring key emergency information, and inform us of any pre-existing conditions before arrival. Hospitals and medical facilities expect payment on site, which you can then claim back from your insurer.

Can I arrive early or leave after the program ends?

Yes. The program includes airport pickup on the arrival Sunday and dropoff on the departure Saturday, with accommodation for the program dates. You are welcome to arrive early or stay on afterwards, just let us know in advance. Any extra nights of accommodation, and any transfers outside the arrival and departure days, are arranged by you and at your own cost, and our team is happy to point you in the right direction.

Do I need a laptop?

Yes. You will need to bring your own laptop for classes, homework and your internship project. Any reliable machine that comfortably runs a browser, a spreadsheet tool and presentation software is perfect. Fast WiFi is provided at both your accommodation and the co-working space.

Ready to make this summer count?

Spend six weeks learning, interning and living in Cape Town, Lisbon or New York. Only 30 students per cohort. Applications are open.
