One case. Three weeks. Every skill a first-year law student needs.

Most pre-law students arrive at the application having never argued a case, written a legal memo, or defended a point of law out loud. There's no clinical experience for law school the way there is for medicine, so most applicants show up only with grades, a test score, and an essay about wanting to make a difference.

You'll leave with:

Understand how lawyers are beginning to use AI, and why verification and human judgement still matter.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

These are the same foundational moves every first-year law student is trained on, practised here on real South African judgments, not textbook hypotheticals.

Read & brief a case.

Extract the facts, issue, holding, and reasoning from a real judgment, the raw skill underneath everything else in law.

Reason like a lawyer.

Master IRAC: Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion, the structure behind every law school exam answer and every legal memo.

Write like a lawyer.

Draft a predictive memo and a persuasive submission, with structured feedback and revision. Then do it again, better.

Argue like a lawyer.

Build an argument, defend it under questioning, and hold your ground before a bench of practising advocates.

Plus: work with AI the way firms actually do.

A full day on how legal AI is deployed and supervised in practice: what to verify, what never to trust, and what a supervising partner will ask you.

The capstone

One case, argued right to the end.

On day five, you receive the brief: a real South African matter, adapted for students. It has two defensible sides and a novel legal question. For the next two weeks, it is your case.

You decipher the facts, research precedents, reason through it, write on it, and build your argument, with coaching from iX faculty and practising lawyers.On the final day, you argue it. A panel of practising advocates hears both sides, questions you from the bench, and delivers their judgement.

Whats Not included

Flights and meals. Considering where all of our students come from, and the broad spectrum of dietary requirements, your flights and food are not included in the tuition fees. Orientation will include information on where to shop, what dining options are around, and what’s affordable, local and tasty. Costs vary between our campus cities.
Extra excursions. Each of our campus cities has a host of adventures available for you and your new friends to go on. We’re happy to make recommendations and point you in the right direction, but note that additional experiences outside of the official program are for your own cost.
Extra accommodation and transfers. It will be your responsibility to cover the costs of accommodation and transportation if you choose to arrive before the confirmed arrival day, typically the Sunday before the program begins. The same applies if you decide to stay on after the program ends.
Transport to and from your internship. While most of the internships will be concentrated around the campus location, getting yourself to and from meetings will be at your own expense. We’ll brief you on transport options during orientation, and there will be info in your internship pack that you’ll receive in the first week of the program.
