What is an iX Internship?

An iX internship is a scoped, live business project for a vetted company. You'll research, design, build, iterate, and present to stakeholders while your iX faculty and teaching team coach you on process and quality. Think of it as a professional work stream with embedded mentorship and structured milestones.

You will:

Work in a small team on a clearly defined company project.
Meet weekly with your iX teaching team for coaching and unblockers.
Follow a proven delivery cadence:
(kickoff → research → build → review → present).
Produce tangible artifacts (models, decks, dashboards, PRDs, memos, analyses).
Present your final deliverable to company stakeholders.

You won't:

Be left to figure it out alone.
Do busywork or simulated cases, this is live, business-critical work.

How the internship fits into the iX program.

Whether you join a Study Abroad program (Cape Town or Lisbon) or a Summer Online program, the internship is integrated with your bootcamp coursework.

Typical program rhythm.

Pre-work: foundational preperation before day 1.
2 weeks of bootcamp: 3 hours/day of live instruction + homework/group work.
4 weeks of internship + class blend: 3 internship days/week, 2 days of class + internship work.
Weekly coaching: scheduled internship support/coaching hours with your teaching team.

Expect ~ 24 class contact hours during the internship phase, plus dedicated internship support and substantial project time. Exact hours and schedules vary by program and location.

Students joined Travelstart’s AI Innovation Lab to explore how artificial intelligence can transform marketing processes. The project focused on researching and testing AI tools, producing strategic insights, and delivering practical solutions to enhance workflows, creativity, and performance.

Prim-U is an innovative platform that connects clients to vetted beauty and wellness freelancers, or “Primlancers,” for at-home services booked in minutes via computer, phone, or tablet.

Project & KPIs:

Students were tasked with supporting Prim-U’s expansion into trading raw cosmetics ingredients across European and African markets. The project involves analysing product–market fit, segmenting customers, and identifying strategic opportunities for international growth. Interns will select two priority markets for geographic expansion and develop an actionable entry.

Students worked with the Now Boarding founding team to investigate new countries to expand their services to remotely, taking advantage of exchange rates and the ability to consult with clients globally from Cape Town, with its exceptional talent pool.

Am I paying tuition for the internship?

No. Tuition funds the program-teaching, coaching, operations, and the infrastructure that enables your internship project. The internship is the work project component you complete within the program, under expert guidance.

Is the internship guaranteed?

Abroad: you're matched to an in-city company project aligned to your track; some workdays may be remote per company policy, with co-working space provided.
Online: a remote internship is guaranteed and integrated with your coursework.

Who are the companies?

Partners vary by year, spanning startups, NGOs, and established firms. Final placements are confirmed closer to the program start. Examples shown are representative of scope and level.

Will I be onsite?

Abroad: expect a mix of in-person and occasional remote days depending on the company.
Online: the internship is fully remote, with a clear weekly cadence and frequent faculty and manager check-ins.

Do I get support on the project?

Yes, weekly internship coaching, TA unblockers, and milestone reviews. You'll also run presentation dry-runs before stakeholder meetings.
